Now that we have experienced the history, culture and
sites of Nicaragua, our work week is ready to begin. It is 6 a.m. here and I just got the kids out of bed. We will start our day by heading to Los
Quinchos, a Nicaraguan non-profit that rehabilitates children from the street and in the Managua city
dump, La Chureca. They have a project in San Marcos, near Granada, as well as
a smaller one for the older children in Granda. We will meet the founder, visit
the boy’s project at La Finca, a large farm where the boys live and learn how
to tend to animals and agriculture, and visit the girl’s project where the
girls live. We will head to the community of Piedra Menuda in the department of
Nindiri and have a welcoming ceremony
with the community of Piedra Menuda.
Our project is known as
a sustainable living project. We will build two 15 by 18 foot concrete homes
for two families in the community. These needy families
will pay a small monthly fee to the community to live in these homes. All of the
money collected goes back into the community in order to provide micro-loans
for the members of the community to start up new businesses in order to better
the quality of their lives.
I will try to get
pictures of their homes and the beautiful community which they have built but I
am concerned that I may not have internet access. Keep your fingers crossed!
All for now.
Thanks so much for your support!
